University of Illinois Men's Basketball to Host Epilepsy Awareness Game

The University of Illinois Men’s Basketball Team announces that it will light State Farm Arena purple on December 11th as a part of the Athletes vs Epilepsy - Epilepsy Awareness Night.  The Fighting Illini will take on Michigan at 8pm in Champaign -Urbana.  Last year the Illini Fighting posted an 87-67 win against Mississippi Valley State University during it November Epilepsy Awareness game.  Players will once again don Athletes vs Epilepsy shirts prior to the game. Purple pom-poms and Athletes vs Epilepsy - Strength Over Epilepsy bracelets will be distributed at gate entrances to fans to cheer on the team and show their support. 1,000 rally towels will be given to students in attendance.  Pre-game ceremonies will include a check presentation from the Orange Krush to the Epilepsy Foundation.  And half-time will include an Orange Krush Knockout Tournament championship game with proceeds benefitting the Epilepsy Foundation.

Jamall Walker, a member of the Fighting Illini Men’s Basketball staff, and wife Rebekah are Ambassadors for Athletes vs Epilepsy.  Their son, Braylon, had his first seizure in January of 2017.  The second seizure came two weeks later, followed by the diagnosis of epilepsy. Epilepsy was going to be a part of his family’s life.  Braylon joins the 3.4 million people in the United States living with the challenges of epilepsy.  The Walkers are helping to make an impact as ambassadors and established this awareness game and fundraiser, along with the University of Illinois Athletics Department staff.
